Event Description:
Learn to Gild-Simple, Accessible and Versatile Gilding Class by Barrie Bryant
Join gilder Barrie Lynn Bryant, Trustee of the Society of Gilders, as he teaches simple and cost-effective ways to gild. The class, titled Simple, Versatile, and Accessible Gilding, is November 9 and 10 at the Eagle. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling the Eagle’s Box Office or by visiting their website. The class fee is $125 to be paid in advance to reserve your spot.  A materials and tools fee of $65 is due at the first class session.
The city of Pontiac and the Museum of the Gilding Arts worked closely with the Society of Gilders and Barrie Bryant to bring the class to Pontiac. The goal of the class is to offer area artists a chance to learn the art of gilding in a way that is easy and affordable.  The class is specifically designed to teach students how to gild wood, paper, ceramic, and cast resin objects quickly and inexpensively using mordant size gilding techniques, and to give the Museum of the Gilding Arts docents confidence to gild things and demonstrate gilding while they are working in the museum. “We are lucky to have such a thriving arts community in the area and hope this class will be an interest to local artists and artisans,” says Liz Vincent.  The 9-hour class will run 6:00-9:00 Friday, November 9 and 9:00-4:00 on Saturday, November 10. Registration can be completed by calling 815-844-1187 or by visiting www.PontiacEagle.com/ticketing.
Barrie will be bringing items such as turned finials, tops and much more for students to gild in his class.
This class is supported in part by a Professional Development Grant awarded to Mr. Bryant by the Wyoming Arts Council with funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.  For more information on Barrie’s work, visit www.merglennstudios.com
